Kamarkattu / Kalkona / Kamarkat / Coconut Jaggery Balls are one of the most renowned South Indian sweets that offer a taste of royalty unmatched by any other. These candies are traditionally made from jaggery, which is cooked with water until it reaches a consistency roughly similar to honey in its final form. Upon reaching the desired consistency, shredded coconut can be added to the mixture as a way to provide texture to the jaggery batter. Finally, ghee and cardamom powder are added to the mixture and given a quick mix. After that, the mixture is transferred to a pan greased with ghee, where it is shaped into balls. Known to be the favorite of everyone regardless of age, kamarkattu is one of those rare treats that are not to be missed.
